This project aims to strengthen the fight against discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual identity and age. The project activities will be carried out in collaboration with strategic partners such as CSOs, bar associations, local journalists and university students, in two pillars. The first pillar consists of activities which will contribute to increasing public awareness on discrimination and solidarity for an equal society. The second pillar includes activities to address responsible authorities such as advocacy and ensuring equal protection for everyone within the judicial system.

The right to peaceful assembly is among the basic criteria of democratic society, as it is an important tool for advocacy for human rights as well as political participation. Through monitoring and reporting of freedom of assembly in Turkey, it is aimed to render violations more visible, ascertaining problem areas as well as guiding responsible authorities who both make and implement legislation.
Within the scope of the work carried out since 2015, data is collected through media monitoring, violations which interfere with the enjoyment of this right are recorded and evaluated. Bans issued by the administrative authorities are evaluated on the basis of national and international human rights standards, and also shared with the wider public. A monitoring network has been formed with trade unions, bar associations’ representatives/members and CSOs. This network is utilised in workshops for discussing current problems and solutions.

The right to vote and stand for elections is one of the most basic basic citizenship and human rights. In Turkey, homeless people, women, persons with disabilities, LGBTI+, persons who have different religious belief or ethnic origin, non-Turkish speakers, illiterate persons, the elderly, persons who live in shelters and nursing homes, are unable to enjoy equal access to the right to vote and stand for elections. Through the Independent Election Monitoring Platform, comprised of CSOs and citizens, access to the right to vote and stand for elections for the groups mentioned above has been monitored and reported in every local and national elections since 2011. The aim is to strengthen democratic society and increasing the participation of citizens in governance.
